Extreme Pressure
Ransomware attackers and cybercriminals have not taken a break during the pandemic. In fact, the threat landscape has dramatically increased for small to medium-sized companies because of the easy availability of Ransomware as a Service (RaaS), with criminals franchising malware to other entry-level cybercriminals. Hackers – often spinoffs from larger criminal enterprises – not only purchase the code required to compromise a system, but can also purchase network vulnerabilities of specific companies from other sources on the dark web, exposing even more companies to attack. Class actions filed under the California Consumer Privacy Act and the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act continue to proliferate as creative plaintiff’s lawyers push the boundaries of these statutes well beyond the host states. This panel will update you on current threats, typical state law security requirements and liability safe-harbors, and practical steps you can take to protect your company from bad actors and litigation.
