The UK is already one of the leading destinations in Europe for Chinese investors and outbound M&A deal-flow from Mainland China and Hong Kong increased in 2021. Whilst deals were focused primarily on the TMT and healthcare sectors, M&A activity covered a broad range of other sectors ranging from education to transport (particularly the EV/battery sector). In addition to making acquisitions, Chinese companies have also sought to divest assets in Europe (most notably in the real estate sector). We hope to see the trend for increased cross border deal-flow continue throughout the current year.
