The US, EU and UK have imposed economic sanctions against Russia since 2014, when Russia took over and annexed the Crimean peninsula and began its military intervention in eastern Ukraine. The sanctions regimes have been dramatically extended in the weeks following the invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022. Doing business with Russia is now complicated and risky.
