International law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP represented Ninebot Limited and its affiliates in its business combination with Segway Inc., the world’s leading provider of personal electric transportation known for its two-wheeled, self-balancing, battery-powered electric vehicles invented by Dean Kamen, as well as an acquisition financing to fund the deal.

Ninebot Limited is a leading Chinese short-distance personal transportation vehicle maker based in Beijing. Its main investors include Sequoia Capital and Xiaomi Technology, the largest domestic cell phone maker in China. The combined company will focus on research and development, manufacturing, sales and service in the short-distance transportation industry, with the goal of promoting the rapid development of that industry and leading the revolution of mobile robotics solutions. Both Ninebot and Segway will continue to operate under their existing brand names.

Dorsey advised Ninebot on all phases of this complicated international transaction, including structuring and financing issues relating to the transaction, as well as those relating to M&A, regulatory, real estate and intellectual property. The Dorsey team was led by New York office Partners Catherine Pan-Giordano and Brian Rosenau. ”We are proud to represent more and more Chinese clients in their international expansion. Chinese companies are increasingly looking to the West for technology, resources, markets and talents. We are thrilled to be part of this globalization trend,” said New York office Partner Catherine Pan-Giordano.
