Managing Partner Peter Nelson attributed Dorsey’s strong 2025 performance to an intentional, culture-driven approach to growth that prioritizes expanding meaningful client relationships and attracting lawyers who fit Dorsey’s values.
Across practices, the Firm saw robust demand in M&A, capital markets, IP litigation, healthcare litigation, and trusts and estates in 2025. In an interview with The American Lawyer, Peter described the increased activity as the result of steady head count growth and a “push to make sure people’s plates were full.”
Peter pointed to the Firm's expansion into markets like Chicago, Phoenix, Boise, and Dallas as characteristic of the strategy, bringing in partner groups with strong existing practices and client relationships rather than growing for growth's sake. "We haven't seen the need to put at risk what we feel like is a very strong culture," he said.
Peter said Dorsey is in a position of strength in a wave of law firm mergers, noting it as an opportunity to attract attorneys and clients looking for an alternative to firms that have changed around them.
