Overview

Grant represents institutional lenders, tribes and tribal entities, and private capital clients in the structuring and execution of complex financing transactions.

Grant is an associate in the Finance and Restructuring Group, where he represents institutional lenders and tribal borrowers on financings related to gaming, health centers, land repurchases, and other on-reservation infrastructure projects. Through a secondment serving as acting general counsel to a tribal government, Grant advised tribal leadership on governance, tribal code, and day-to-day legal matters arising under Federal Indian Law. In addition to his tribal finance and Federal Indian Law work, Grant also works on private capital transactions and advises fintech clients on lender licensing and money transmission regime compliance.

Grant’s pro bono work includes guiding a nonprofit organization through the reinstatement of its tax-exempt status and assisting a youth in foster care in obtaining tribal enrollment. He is an active participant in the firm’s Indian Child Welfare Act pro bono practice.

Grant is an enrolled member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe.

  • Represented a tribal economic development enterprise in connection with $300 million senior secured credit facilities for tribal gaming operations.
  • Represented the administrative agent in connection with $300 million senior secured credit facility for a tribe in the Pacific Northwest.
  • Represented the lender in connection with $130 million senior secured credit facility for a tribe in the Pacific Northwest. 
  • Represented the lender in connection with $80 million senior secured credit facilities for a tribe in California, including a convertible tax-exempt loan facility.
  • Represented the lender in connection with $60 million senior secured credit facility for tribal gaming operations of a tribe in Oklahoma. 
  • Represented the lender in connection with $10 million senior secured credit facility for a tribe in the Pacific Northwest.
  • Completed a secondment serving as acting general counsel to a tribal government, advising the tribal council on governance and tribal code matters and supporting contract negotiations.
