International law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP announced today that three of its legal practices have been recommended in the 2015 edition of Legal 500 United States. Recommended practices include Litigation-Trade Secrets, M&A-Middle Market and Real Estate and Construction.

The Legal 500 Series is widely acknowledged as the world’s largest legal referral guide. Over 250,000 corporate counsel have been surveyed and interviewed globally in the past 12 months to produce its law firm analysis.

The Legal 500 recommended Dorsey’s Litigation-Trade Secret practice, noting Minneapolis Partner Joseph Hammell’s recent defense work in an employee raiding and trade secret case before the Eighth Circuit with claimed damages of $450 million. The recommendation also noted the work of Palo Alto Partner David Murphy and the experience of New York Partner Nick Akerman in the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

Dorsey’s M&A practice was highlighted for middle-market M&A work (sub-$500 million), with emphasis on its role in representing Rochester Medical Corporation on its sale to C R Bard, representing The Mosaic Company on the purchase of a phosphate business from CF Industries, assisting Canadian gold and silver mining company Esperanza Resources with the $69.4 million sale of shares in the company to Alamos Gold, among other transactions. Minneapolis Partner Matthew Knopf was named as a Leading Lawyer. Denver Partner Bob Anderson, New York Partner Scott Desmond, Minneapolis Partners Kevin Maler and Bob Rosenbaum and Salt Lake City Partners Samuel Gardiner and Layne Smith are individually recommended.

The Legal 500 recommendation of Dorsey’s Real Estate and Construction-Construction practice describes Dorsey as “[w]ell versed in heavy industrial construction design projects” with “a particular area of focus [being] complex commercial claims for public and private agencies.” It also notes that the Firm is “able to draw upon the expertise of its international offices in order to handle clients’ cross-border matters when needed” and the Firm’s client base comprising a “mix of general contractors, owners, design companies and engineering firms.” Minneapolis Partner Jocelyn Knoll is individually recommended as the leader of the practice.
