International law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP has been recognized in China Business Law Journal’s Deals of the Year 2025 awards in the Intellectual Property category for its work representing Pandabuy in a cross-border intellectual property dispute.

The annual awards highlight significant China-related deals and cases based on their complexity, impact, and innovation.

King Spider et al. v. Pandabuy

In the Intellectual Property category, Dorsey represented Pandabuy in a case in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York in which several global apparel brands alleged trademark and copyright infringement. In January 2025, the court dissolved a preliminary injunction against the Chinese cross-border e-commerce platform and unfroze millions of dollars in restrained assets after determining the plaintiffs had not demonstrated a likelihood of success on the merits of their claims. The case addressed cross-border injunctions, coordination of evidence between the United States and China, and whether an online platform can be held liable for alleged infringement by third-party sellers.

The matter was co-led by partners Ray Liu and Bruce Ewing, with support from Kaleb McNeely, Travis Xu, John Mixon, Sia Jiang, and Hazel Zhao.

Through continuous reporting on China’s legal market and independent analysis, China Business Law Journal selects standout deals and cases based on factors including deal size, industry impact, structural innovation, judicial precedent setting, and social contribution.
