NEW YORK (October 15, 2008) Dorsey & Whitney is pleased to announce that David A. Scheffel is joining the firm’s New York office as a Partner in the Trial Group. Scheffel specializes in litigation arising out of the mortgage industry. He has defended clients against individual and class actions alleging predatory lending, violations of the Truth in Lending Act, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, and related federal and state laws.

Additionally, unrelated to the mortgage industry, Scheffel has extensive experience litigating complex commercial matters involving breach of contract, tortious interference with contract, misappropriation of trade secrets, anti-trust violations, and class actions. He has conducted a number of trials as lead counsel.

“David Scheffel is a valuable addition to our trial practice,” said Robert J. Dwyer, Jr., the head of Dorsey & Whitney’s New York office. “David’s high energy, personal demeanor, and excellent skills as a litigator give him a demonstrated ability to excel in the courtroom and build solid client relationships in the office. ”Scheffel received a B.A. in 1992 from Manhattanville College and a J.D. in 1996 from Pace University. He started his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office, where he practiced from 1997 through 2000. Thereafter, David joined the New York City office of Condon & Forsyth LLP, then clerked for United States District Judge Arthur D. Spatt of the Eastern District of New York. Upon completion of his clerkship in 2003, David joined Farrell Fritz.

Regarding his decision to join Dorsey, Scheffel remarked, “I am very impressed with the environment, resources, and talent at Dorsey. The Trial Group is well-regarded in the legal field. I look forward to joining the Dorsey team.”
