MINNEAPOLIS and SAN FRANCISCO (November 10, 2003) – Patent attorney Dr. Birgit Millauer has joined the international law firm of Dorsey & Whitney LLP as an of-counsel attorney in the firm’s San Francisco office. With her strong background in the life sciences and in law, Dr. Millauer will further bolster Dorsey’s West-Coast intellectual property practice, which has grown into a significant legal resource for companies in the life sciences, technology, and health care sectors. The addition of Dr. Millauer to the San Francisco office will strengthen a patent practice that has already earned national acclaim for its size, the depth of its technical knowledge, and the quality of its work. 

At Dorsey, Dr. Millauer will continue her practice specializing in worldwide intellectual property strategy and management, patent prosecution, and enforcement with emphasis on the life sciences and technology sectors.

Dr. Millauer earned her law degree from the Santa Clara University School of Law. Born and raised in Munich, Germany, Millauer earned her Ph.D. in biology from Eberhard-Karls-University of Tübingen in association with Max-Planck-Institut for Biochemistry. In addition, she holds Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in biology from Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich. Dr. Millauer’s academic career includes groundbreaking work on inhibiting angiogenesis (the growth of blood vessels) in cancerous tumors. She holds several patents related to her research, and she has coauthored important papers on the topic. Dr. Millauer previously practiced law for the firm of Pennie & Edmonds LLP in Palo Alto, Calif. She is admitted to practice law in California and in federal courts including the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, the Ninth Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Northern, Central, Southern, and Eastern District of California. She is also admitted before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
