Patent partner Robert Fergan has joined Dorsey & Whitney LLP in Chicago, the international law firm announced today.
Drawing on his experience as Division Chief Intellectual Property Counsel at a medical device manufacturer, Robert helps clients maximize the value of their patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. Robert’s in-house role equipped him with the skills to help clients manage global intellectual property portfolios and oversee IP strategy, litigation, procurement, acquisition, and risk management. He also advises on AI product integration, AI use policies, open-source compliance, and commercial agreements supporting product development and licensing. Robert previously practiced at a leading intellectual property boutique firm, representing clients in industries including semiconductors, robotics, artificial intelligence, imaging, and medical devices.
Robert is admitted in the State of Michigan and the United States Patent and Trademark Office; he is applying for Illinois admission. He received his J.D. from Wayne State University Law School and his B.S.E.E. from Kettering University.
“Drawing on his background in intellectual property, electrical engineering, and computer science, Bob brings a nuanced understanding of the technologies underlying his clients’ innovations,” said Gina Cornelio, Patent Practice Group Co-Leader. “We are thrilled to welcome him to the Patent team and our growing Chicago office.”
“Dorsey’s Patent practice is committed to developing intellectual property strategies grounded in a deep understanding of each client’s business and aligned with their broader objectives,” said Robert Fergan. “I’m excited to join this outstanding team and look forward to helping clients maximize the value of their innovations and intellectual property assets.”
