LB Guthrie Dorsey

International law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP announced today that LB Guthrie has joined the Firm’s Real Estate & Land Use practice group in Minneapolis as a Partner.

With over 35 years of experience, Mr. Guthrie’s practice focuses on a wide variety of real estate issues. As one of the first attorneys to be named a Real Property Law Specialist by the Minnesota State Bar Association, his work includes serving as counsel for developers of expansive multi-use development projects, purchasers of office space in the local downtown east stadium redevelopment project, and scores of office, retail, residential, industrial and mixed-use projects. He has handled numerous 1031 exchanges, leasebacks, bondable leases and tax-increment financings for apartment complexes, downtown office buildings, suburban hotels, medical office and manufacturing facilities, single-family and multi-family housing developments, cooperatives, landfills, shopping centers, office parks, mixed-use developments and telecom hotels.

Mr. Guthrie joins Dorsey from Lindquist & Vennum LLP, where he was a partner and served for 12 years as leader of that firm’s real estate practice group. Before joining Lindquist & Vennum in 2001, he was a partner in the Maun & Simon law firm in Minneapolis, where he served as managing partner in the mid-1990s.

Mr. Guthrie has a J.D. degree from Boston College Law School and a B.A. degree from Iowa State University. He has been recognized by Chambers USA, Best Lawyers and Minnesota Super Lawyers, including being named as a “Top 40” Super Lawyer. In 2009, he was named a “Lawyer of the Year” by Minnesota Lawyer. He has been active in pro bono work over his entire career, including more than 30 years of service on the Volunteer Lawyer Panel of Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services, Inc.

Mr. Guthrie is part of a team of highly experienced real estate attorneys that has recently joined Dorsey in Minneapolis from Lindquist & Vennum. That team also includes partners David Meyer, Marcus Mollison, Laura Graf and Anne Olson and associate Sarah Zach.

“We are delighted that LB has joined Dorsey as part of this great expansion of our real estate practice in Minneapolis,” noted Ken Cutler, Managing Partner of Dorsey & Whitney. “His vast experience and deep expertise will complement Dorsey’s strong Firm-wide real estate practice and will ensure continuity for a team that has had years of success together.”

“Dorsey has earned its great reputation and is focusing on an entrepreneurial expansion of its real estate/land use group, which made a hard decision seem easy,” noted Mr. Guthrie. “The deep expertise and years of experience of the group will be an incredible benefit to our clients.”
