International law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP announced today that Howard Root, CEO of Vascular Solutions, will headline the Dorsey 4D Symposium (Dorsey 4DS) in Palo Alto with a keynote address on September 29. The symposium addresses the “4Ds” of the life sciences industry – devices, diagnostics, drugs and digital health. More information is available at dorsey4ds.com.

Howard Root founded Vascular Solutions in 1997 and developed over 100 new medical devices that are used by physicians to treat a wide variety of vascular diseases, from heart attacks to peripheral arterial disease. Root learned some of his most valuable lessons after being criminally prosecuted over an FDA-cleared medical device that constituted only 0.1% of his company’s sales, for which he required a defense team of over 120 lawyers at a cost of $25 million in order to be acquitted.

“We are excited to have Howard Root share the lessons learned in his successful defense against criminal prosecution by the FDA,” said Evan Ng, Partner and Co-Head of Dorsey’s Life Sciences and Health Care practice. “This year’s Dorsey 4D Symposium features a compelling program addressing current issues that matter most to the life sciences industry, including Brexit’s impact on funding and operations, and leadership challenges that are unique to life sciences.”

The Dorsey 4D Symposium showcases leaders in the life sciences industry who discuss critical issues and trends affecting emerging and established life sciences companies and their investors, and provides opportunities to connect with industry executives and venture capitalists.
