International law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP announced today that Annette Jarvis, a partner in the Firm’s Bankruptcy and Financial Restructuring Group and a member of the Firm’s Management Committee, has received the 2014 Women Lawyers of Utah (WLU) Mentoring Award.

The Women Lawyers of Utah presented its sixth annual Mentoring Award to Ms. Jarvis at their 2014 Fall Retreat. She was recognized for her extensive efforts to mentor female attorneys. Utah State Bar President Elect, Angelina Tsu, introduced Ms. Jarvis with a personal story about Ms. Jarvis’ important impact on her career. Since 2009, WLU has been honoring individuals who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to mentoring lawyers in the Utah legal community.

Ms. Jarvis has been a leader for women attorneys her entire career. She has been a long-standing advocate for policies that benefit women and families, supporting part-time/flex-time policies, alternative partnership tracks, and the advancement of women into management positions. Ms. Jarvis has personally advocated for a number of women who sought positions on the bench or leadership in the local bar. She often counsels younger attorneys on business development and on balancing their work and family obligations.

“Annette leads by example. She has an incredibly successful practice and handles some of the most complex bankruptcy and restructuring matters,” noted Dorsey Managing Partner Ken Cutler. “She has managed to balance her work and family obligations, and in her ‘spare time,’ mentors and supports women as they develop meaningful careers. Her input as a member of Dorsey’s Management Committee has been invaluable and has helped us improve our policies in recruiting and advancing talented women in our Firm.”

Since 2007, Dorsey has earned a place on the prestigious Working Mother & Flex-Time Lawyers Best Law Firms for Women list. The Firm is committed to having the policies and infrastructure in place to enable its attorneys to manage their professional and personal lives in the way that works best for them.
