International law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP announced today that Lori Sarageno, Ph.D., has joined the Patent Group in the Firm’s Minneapolis office as Of Counsel.

Dr. Sarageno’s practice focuses on drafting and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patents, intellectual property strategy development, client counseling in the chemical and mechanical arts and drafting of joint-development, non-disclosure and other IP-related agreements. She has expertise in a broad range of chemical and mechanical technologies, including general organic and polymer synthesis and applications, inkjet and flexographic printing materials, coating technologies, extrusion technologies including multilayer and profile extrusion, microreplication, adhesives, security materials, electronic paper, fabric protective chemicals, inorganic colloids and nanocomposites, rheological additives, silicone polymers, fine fibers, crosslinking mechanisms and filtration materials.

Before joining Dorsey, Dr. Sarageno was an attorney with Pauly DeVries Smith & Deffner LLC, a Minneapolis IP boutique law firm. Before that, she worked for three years as Director of Intellectual Property for Segetis, Inc., a “green” chemistry startup company and was an associate in the Minneapolis office of Merchant & Gould P.C.

Prior to becoming an attorney in 2006, Dr. Sarageno spent a combined 15 years as a research chemist at 3M and General Electric. She is a co-inventor on 19 issued patents. Dr. Sarageno received her law degree from the William Mitchell College of Law and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Florida as well as a B.S. in Chemistry from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
