All supervisory employees in California must go through a two hour interactive workplace harassment prevention training. The regulations which were initially introduced in 2005 were codified under Government Code Section 12950.1 (also known as AB 1825), requiring employers with 50 or more employees to provide two hours of interactive workplace harassment prevention training to all supervisory employees every two years. Some of the requirements specific to this compliance training are:

  1. All supervisors or newly promoted supervisors in California must undergo the training.
  2. Covered employers are those with 50 or more employees or contractors.
  3. The training must be "interactive," at least two hours long, address legal prohibitions against unlawful workplace harassment, discrimination and retaliation under federal and state law, discuss factors which include but are not limited to correction of situations involving workplace harassment, remedies available to the victims, effects of harassment, relevant statutory provisions of case law, practical examples, confidentiality issues, reporting procedures, supervisor's responsibilities, the company's polices, and how to respond to and prevent harassment and retaliation in the workplace.
  4. The training must be provided by a "qualified trainer" who is an expert in California employment discrimination law.
  5. New or newly promoted supervisors must be trained within six months of their assumption of the position.
