International law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP announced today that Paul W. Heiring has joined the Firm’s Trial Group in Minneapolis as Of Counsel.
Mr. Heiring has over 30 years of experience and practices exclusively in the area of ERISA litigation and other employee benefits disputes. In addition to litigating a broad range of ERISA cases, he also counsels clients on issues that might eventually lead to litigation, with the goal of either avoiding litigation or putting the client in the best position to defend itself. Mr. Heiring has represented Fortune 500 companies including retailers, manufacturers, insurers, financial institutions, TPAs, and trustees. He has also been involved in complex litigation involving non-ERISA plans, such as church plans.
Mr. Heiring joins Dorsey from Faegre Baker Daniels LLP, where he practiced for over 30 years, most recently as of counsel. He has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America in ERISA Litigation and received the Burton Award for Distinguished Legal Writing in 2016. He is a frequent speaker at continuing legal education and other programs on ERISA and benefits litigation topics.
Mr. Heiring received a B.A. degree magna cum laude from Lawrence University and a J.D. degree magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School, where he served as Articles Editor on the Minnesota Law Review and was awarded the Order of the Coif.
“We are delighted that Paul has joined Dorsey,” noted Ken Cutler, Managing Partner of Dorsey & Whitney. “His expertise and experience will complement Dorsey’s strong ERISA and benefits litigation team in defending employers, insurers, and fiduciaries in complex litigation and class action litigation throughout the country.”
“I am very pleased to be joining Dorsey and its great Firm-wide team of trial, ERISA and benefits lawyers,” added Mr. Heiring. “I look forward to serving Dorsey’s exceptional client base around the world.”
