Nisha Verma defends California employers against wage and hour class actions, PAGA representative claims, and traditional labor disputes so they can stay focused on running their business.
Nisha leads Dorsey & Whitney's California Labor & Employment group, bringing employers practical, forward-looking counsel on the full range of challenges that define today's workplace. Whether a client is navigating a high-stakes wage and hour class action, managing a union organizing campaign, or responding to a sensitive internal investigation, Nisha structures her advice around the organization's goals — not just the legal issue in front of them.
Nisha's litigation practice centers on complex wage and hour class actions and representative actions under California's Private Attorneys General Act of 2004 (PAGA), including the evolving impact of arbitration agreements on those claims. She has taken matters through trial, arbitration, dispositive motions, and mediation, and has obtained published appellate decisions on issues of first impression. She also defends single-plaintiff employment actions and contractual disputes across California's state and federal courts.
On the traditional labor side, Nisha advises employers through every stage of the union relationship: organizing campaigns, representation petitions, unfair labor practice proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), collective bargaining agreement negotiations and implementation, grievance administration, labor arbitrations, and strike and picketing response.
Nisha's advice and counsel work covers the issues employers encounter most — sexual harassment and sensitive workplace investigations, employment terminations and severance negotiations, trade secret and non-disparagement protections, paid sick leave and paid time off compliance, background check and drug testing requirements, EEO-1 and pay data reporting, leaves of absence, layoffs and facility closures, prevailing wage and government contracting requirements, and the employment dimensions of mergers and acquisitions. She also advises individual physicians, attorneys, executives, and other professionals on employment and severance agreements.
In addition to her client work, Nisha serves as a voluntary settlement officer through the Los Angeles County Superior Court's Resolve LA program, mediating employment disputes. She is recognized as a nominee for the Orange County Business Journal's Women in Business Award (2024) and has contributed more than 50 Diversity hours (2023).
Nisha serves on the Board of Directors of Orange County United Way and is a member of the Organization of Women Executives.
