Nicholas J. Pappas is a nationally recognized litigator whose practice focuses on the defense of healthcare and employment litigation.
Nick is best known for representing health insurers, plan administrators, plan sponsors, and fiduciaries in litigation brought under ERISA, the Medicare Act, RICO, the Sherman Act, and related statutes. Nick’s healthcare litigation experience includes the defense of putative class actions, multidistrict litigation, regulatory investigations, and other complex disputes involving claims payment practices, provider reimbursement, medical necessity determinations, fiduciary obligations, and disclosure issues. He defends against claims under 401(k) and defined benefit plans, including those in connection with company stock disclosures, withdrawal liability, plan termination, and other fiduciary and benefits issues.
Nick also has substantial experience handling employment litigation matters. He represents employers in disputes involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, restrictive covenants, trade secrets, executive employment matters, and other workplace claims. He regularly appears before federal and state courts, administrative agencies, and arbitration panels throughout the country.
Over nearly four decades of practice, Nick has represented clients across the healthcare, financial services, insurance, hospitality, education, and private equity sectors. Clients rely on him to manage bet-the-company litigation, navigate complex regulatory environments, and develop practical solutions to challenging business and legal problems.
In addition to representing clients in litigation, Nick counsels employers and benefit plan sponsors and insurers on risk-management strategies designed to minimize litigation exposure and address emerging legal developments. His clients include organizations in the healthcare, insurance, financial services, hospitality, education, and private equity sectors.
