NEW YORK, NY (August 23, 2004) – The international law firm of Dorsey & Whitney LLP announced today that Gary Abelev joined the firm’s New York office as a Partner in the Patent and Intellectual Property (IP) groups. Mr. Abelev’s presence further bolsters Dorsey’s formidable intellectual property group and adds deep experience to the New York office’s IP capabilities.
Mr. Abelev most recently worked at Baker & Botts where he represented clients in a variety of areas including litigation, opinion work, due-diligence studies, patent prosecution, negotiations, and licensing matters. The majority of his practice focuses on computer software and hardware, semiconductor manufacturing, wired and wireless communications systems, material science, electrical and mechanical arts, and business methods and designs.

Gary received his JD in 1995 from St. John's University and holds both a Bachelors and Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic University. While attending graduate school and law school, Gary worked as a computer engineer and systems analyst in software and hardware development, and in system and network design. At Raytheon Corporation, he was involved in radar missile systems design. He also worked on the New York Stock Exchange computer and communications system at Securities Industry Automation Corporation.
