Seventy-six (76) organizations in Hennepin County – including Dorsey & Whitney LLP received the 2019 Wellness by Design Award for excellence in worksite wellness on November 7. The award recognizes organizations that make employee health a priority through creative and effective wellness initiatives. Hennepin County Public Health hosted the award ceremony at the Maple Grove Community Center.

Wellness by Design Awards are presented to Hennepin County employers that demonstrate accomplishments in management support, wellness infrastructure, communication, and programming directed at improving employee health.

Worksite wellness programs are of value to both the employee and employer. They can improve employee performance, increase engagement, lower healthcare costs, and build community. Effective programs create a culture of health that affect all employees.

Dorsey’s Well Ahead program started in 2015 and has over 40 Well Ahead Champions across its U.S. offices. The program includes Firm-wide wellness presentations such as: Resiliency, Sleep, Blue Zones/Secret to Longevity, De-Clutter/De-Stress, Distracted Driving, Retirement Readiness, Elder Care, Emotional Health & Wellness, Nutrition, and Colon Cancer Awareness/Prevention. The local Well Ahead Champions also hold their own office activities such as: Bike/Walk to Work Weeks, TedTalk viewings, Coloring for Stress, Recipe Sharing, and Chair Massages. Thirty (30) Day Challenges have included: Walking, Weight Loss, Squats, Planks, and Water Hydration.
