International law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP announced today that Jonathan Silverblatt, a partner in the Firm’s Corporate practice group and Chair of the Private Equity practice in the Firm’s New York office, has been chosen to receive the 2014 Cornerstone Award in recognition of his exceptional pro bono legal work for multiple nonprofit organizations through pro bono relationships established by Lawyers Alliance.

Since 1997, Lawyers Alliance has presented Cornerstone Awards annually to a select group of individuals and institutions that have made extraordinary contributions through pro bono legal services. These services help nonprofits to address critical human needs and improve the quality of life for thousands of New Yorkers. Mr. Silverblatt has donated countless pro bono hours to the Millennium Film Workshop, a nonprofit resource for film/video artists and their audiences, and Alliance for Coney Island, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transformation of Coney Island into a year-round world-class destination.

The 2014 Cornerstone Awards were presented at a reception and awards ceremony on Thursday, October 30, at Credit Suisse in New York City.

“Community is a Dorsey core value, and pro bono work is one of the most important ways we give back to the community,” said Ken Cutler, Managing Partner of Dorsey & Whitney. “Jonathan’s long-standing commitment and passion to help nonprofit organizations succeed and enrich our lives and our communities exemplifies that core value. We are extremely proud of his achievements and of this recognition.”

In 2013, Dorsey lawyers devoted more than 30,000 hours in total to pro bono projects. The Firm was an original signatory of the 1993 Pro Bono Challenge and has met the Challenge every year since then by devoting more than three percent of billable hours to pro bono services.
