International law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP announced today that John R. Marti has joined the Firm as a Partner in its Government Enforcement and Corporate Investigations Practice Group in Minneapolis.

Mr. Marti joins the Firm after 15 years as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota.  He served as Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota from 2013 to 2014.  He served in the white collar public corruption unit including as co-lead in the prosecution and trial of Minnesota businessman Tom Petters, who was convicted and sentenced to 50 years in prison for orchestrating a $3.7 billion Ponzi scheme. Before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Minnesota in 2000, Mr. Marti was a Trial Attorney in the Fraud Section, Criminal Division, at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., from 1997 to 2000.  Mr. Marti’s 30-year career of government service began in 1985 when he became an infantry officer in the U.S. Marine Corps.  He later served in the Judge Advocate Division as Defense Counsel from 1991-1993, Civil Attorney from 1993-1994 and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney and Chief of Military Justice for the Eastern District of North Carolina from 1994-1997.

Mr. Marti has a JD degree from the University of Oregon School of Law and a BS degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
