In honor of #InternationalWomensDay, Associate Lucy Onyeforo shares how her experience as a former member of Great Britain’s bobsleigh team proved helpful during one of her first pitches at Dorsey.

“Within months of joining Dorsey & Whitney's New York office as an associate in the trial group, one of the partners asked me if I would work with him on a client pitch. I was excited that the firm was interested in not only teaching me how to be a great attorney through my billable work, but also encouraging me to be a well-rounded attorney through investing in my business development skills.

When I arrived at the pitch, I realized, on both sides of the table, I was the only woman in the room.  I quickly tapped into many of the skills I developed as an elite athlete: confidence, composure, focus, and teamwork.  I did not feel out of place – the confidence the partners displayed by involving me in such an important pitch assured me that I was exactly where I was supposed to be. The pitch was a success.”
