This February Roundtable provides a survey and analysis of the “sandbox” programs that some federal and state agencies have developed in the past few years.  Sandbox programs are designed to promote innovation in financial products and services, particularly those offered to consumers.  But what is “innovation,” either in the product itself or in the method of delivery?  Are the sandboxes suited only for fintech companies?   What are the potential benefits for banks and other types of supervised financial institutions?  Our Roundtable discusses the key elements of the sandbox programs underway by, among others, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Attorney General of Arizona, and offer views on potential future developments in this area.
