Despite the frenzy regarding Blockchain technology, Bitcoin, other Coins and Tokens, attorneys must apply traditional legal theories and disciplines when advising clients. Complicating the problem is the rapidly developing (and changing) policy positions by federal and state regulators—many of whom are fearful of investor fraud and wild valuation swings. In addition, the nomenclature employed in the market does not align with well understood legal principles.

Dorsey’s panel discussed this emerging area from the perspective of the legal practitioner, including FinTech representation, SEC and CFTC concerns, investor protection and “ICOs,” tax, Bitcoin exchanges and related recent developments.
