Dorsey attorney Joshua Colangelo-Bryan discussed in the Miami Herald the impact, on his pro bono client, of the U.S. Supreme Court refusal to hear Guantanomo detainee appeals until "alternative procedures" are exhausted. Colangelo-Bryan's client has been at Guantanamo for more than five years.

In February 2007, a federal appeals court ruled that Guantanamo detainees have no standing to appeal the Congressional Military Commissions Act of 2006, which bars foreign "enemy combatants" from challenging the designation in court. The Supreme Court subsequently refused to hear the Guantanamo detainee appeal of this ruling. Colangelo-Bryan says his client "has long stopped believing a court will ever hear his case, and is convinced he has been condemned to live forever on an island where there is no law."

"No Hope in Guantanamo" was published in the Miami Herald, Thursday, April 5, 2007.
