Henness advises clients in proceedings at various court levels in Hong Kong, including the Court of First Instance, Court of Appeal, and Court of Final Appeal. Aside from Hong Kong litigation, Henness regularly also advises clients in international arbitration proceedings. Henness advised clients in various sectors including telecoms, financial services, cryptocurrency, and technology.

Experience

  • Acted for a major satellite operator in a "memorial-style" arbitration against a Thai joint condosat counterparty. Also acted for the satellite operator in the jurisdictional challenge before the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal which set Hong Kong’s first case precedent concerning interpretation of multi-tiered arbitration agreement.
  • Acted for a PRC computer microprocessor company in Hong Kong arbitration proceedings arising from certain California law governed technology licence agreements 
  • Acted for a local property developer in multiple ad hoc arbitration and litigation proceedings in Hong Kong against the main contractor and the architect for negligence in an alteration and addition project. 
  • Represented a multinational corporation and its subsidiaries in a competition enforcement proceeding at the Hong Kong Competition Tribunal.
  • Advised a cryptocurrency company in defending claims brought by an ex-employee for unpaid bonus payments 
  • Represented a multinational reinsurance brokerage company in defending a claim of “team move” from a competitor 
  • Represented and defended a multinational corporation in a Hong Kong disability discrimination action.
  • Represented and advised various Hong Kong-listed companies in investigations brought by the Securities and Futures Commission and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
