CATHERINE PROVIDES PRACTICAL AND SEASONED GUIDANCE TO CLIENTS ON BRANDING, COPYRIGHT, AND LICENSING ISSUES, STRATEGIES, AND MANAGEMENT.

Catherine offers strategic and pragmatic advice to help businesses and individuals develop, protect, and utilize intellectual property rights. She advises clients on acquiring, registering, maintaining, and enforcing trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets in the United States and internationally.

In addition, her practice includes drafting and negotiating complex intellectual property and technology agreements. Catherine has extensive experience in handling the IP aspects of corporate transactions. She also counsels clients on branding strategies, ecommerce, and internet issues as well as intellectual property infringement problems. For many years, Catherine has led a team that serves as the designated agent for a mid-sized ecommerce platform, handling all of its takedown requests.

Catherine is a regular contributor to Dorsey’s IP Blog, TheTMCA.com, which focuses on legal developments in the world of TradeMarks, Copyrights, and Advertising.

Licensing

  • Negotiated an amendment to the Google Cloud Master Agreement, including provisions regarding use of artificial intelligence.
  • Drafted and negotiated an amended and revised agreement with Uber to expand delivery service outside of the United States.
  • Negotiated complex managed services agreement against IBM.
  • Drafted and negotiated numerous SaaS and on-premise software license agreements.
  • Negotiated intellectual property provisions of agreements regarding battery storage for solar projects.

Trademark

  • Lead the development, strategy and clearance of a brand identity for a professional sports team.
  • Helped client navigate the clearance and registration of major corporate rebranding in the United States and many other countries.
  • Assisted client with incorporation of significant product brand acquisition, including analysis of market expansion, licensing relationships and enforcement efforts.
  • Counseled start-up media technology platform client on licensing formation, including for NFT platform, and drafted related agreements.

Copyright

  • Lead a team that handles Digital Millennium Copyright Act takedown requests for an ecommerce service provider.
  • Counsel clients on developing, securing and enforcing copyrights.

Corporate Deals

  • Lead the intellectual property aspects of Quten Research Institute, LLC’s acquisition by Sanofi.
  • Managed intellectual property diligence, negotiated agreements and supervised recordation of ownership changes for a medical device company’s acquisition of intellectual property portfolios.
