The turbulence of the last three years has roiled all businesses, and co-ops are not exempt. Co-ops have many benefits due to their governance structure. That same structure creates legal risk as well. These risks are illuminated when business conditions change. In the midst of the pandemic, the University of Wisconsin Center for Cooperatives ambitiously surveyed cooperatives of all types to determine how they governed themselves and to identify trends, best practices and pitfalls. Their findings uniquely identified trends both across cooperative organizations broadly, and also within segments such as agriculture. This Interactive Dialogue will explore the legal aspects of modern cooperative governance in today’s economy.
