Sara Peterson is a partner in the Environmental, Natural Resources and Energy group. She represents and counsels clients in complex negotiations, administrative actions and enforcement proceedings related to soil and groundwater cleanup, hazardous and solid waste, wastewater discharge, occupational safety and health, and other environmental and regulatory issues.

Peterson also counsels clients on identifying and addressing environmental risk in mergers, acquisitions, and other transactions, and in the remediation and redevelopment of contaminated property.

Representative Work

  • Represent developer in negotiations with U.S. Army, General Services Administration, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regarding acquisition, remediation and redevelopment of 600-acre parcel of contaminated property.
  • Counsel public company client on environmental risks of acquiring manufacturing company with known environmental and contamination issues. Oversee environmental due diligence, draft and negotiate environmental aspects of transaction documents, and negotiate environmental insurance policy to mitigate risks.
  • Represent metal finishing client in responding to notices of violation issued by federal, state and local regulators for alleged hazardous waste management and wastewater discharge non-compliance, negotiate settlement agreement resolving same.
