In his election victory speech, President-elect Barack Obama promised to pursue policies to harness cleaner sources of energy and create a healthy environment. During the campaign, he proposed a “New Energy for America” plan and environmental policies that set ambitious goals in the areas of climate change, energy generation, energy efficiency, oil and gas, alternative fuels and vehicles, as well as clean air and clean water.
