Dan Larsen is a Partner in Dorsey's Trial group. His practice focuses in the areas of product liability defense, asbestos litigation, commercial litigation, civil rights defense, and construction liitgation. He has extensive experience in real estate, construction, insurance, marine and employment disputes. Dan represents clients a wide range of industries including automotive, motorcycle, mobile equipment, and pharmaceutical across various jurisdictions. He has successfully prosecuted and defended numerous federal and state trials representing automotive manufacturers, law enforcement officials, governmental officials, medical providers, construction and real estate developers.
Dan served as an Assistant Attorney General for the Utah Attorney General's Office from 1986-2003. As a member of the Litigation Division, he defended a variety of state and federal lawsuits seeking damages against the state, school districts and their employees. Hi diverse caseload included § 1983 civil rights actions involving constitutional and statutory claims (e.g., free speech, free exercise, establishment clause, search and seizure, procedural and substantive due process, cruel and unusual punishment, equal protection, Title VI, Title IX and ADA claims), as well as general tort, contract and employment cases against the State and school districts (e.g., highway design and maintenance, medical malpractice, premises liability, wrongful death, wrongful termination and breach of contract). As the Chief of the Civil Rights Section, he handled some of Utah's highest-profile civil rights cases involving gay clubs and Christmas music in public high schools. Before joining the Litigation Division, Dan was assigned to the Criminal Appeals Division where he briefed and argued more than 60 felony criminal appellate cases before the Utah Supreme Court, Utah Court of Appeals and Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.
