Michael Iwan
Partner
Mike is a partner in Dorsey's Labor & Employment Law Group, as well as a member of the Firm's Executive Compensation, M&A, Apellate, Non-Profit, and Class Action Litigation practice groups. He practices extensively in the areas of employment discrimination and workplace harassment, whistleblowing, wage and hour, hiring and firing, workforce reductions, employee leave, non-competes, affirmative action, and union issues. Mr. Iwan regularly appears in federal and state trial and appeals courts; before federal, state, and local administrative agencies; and in arbitration and mediation throughout the United States, advocating on behalf of employers; and he has experience defending class action and collective action employment litigation. Further, Mr. Iwan provides ongoing labor and employment law counseling, policy review, and training to clients and advises on labor and employment law issues in business mergers and acquisitions.
Representative Litigation
- Arnold et al. v. Cargill, Incorporated (D. Minn.). Member of case team that obtained denial of class certification in procedurally complex putative race discrimination class action brought by group of current and former employees against Cargill.
- Hayes v. U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray, Inc. (D. Minn.). Obtained summary judgment for Piper Jaffray in FMLA and sex discrimination lawsuit brought by former employee.
- Kassuelke v. Alliant Techsystems Inc. (Minn.). Obtained summary judgment for Alliant in retaliation lawsuit brought by a former employee. Summary judgment decision upheld by the Minnesota Court of Appeals and Minnesota Supreme Court.
