Swanick: 20 Years of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act
Download Article PDF
Partner Christine Swanick has been practicing Indian & Gaming Law for 13 years with Dorsey & Whitney. As a result of her success in the area,
Native American Casino magazine consulted Swanick on "the good, the bad, and the future" of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA).
She notes several sections of IGRA that have caused legal difficulties, for instance, the challenge of getting lands for tribes into trust status. "People think it's always easy and there is always a developer for every casino. But even when there is one, there is a tremendous amount of personal sacrifice to improve the economies for all of the members."
Swanick has worked in-house for gaming tribes and assisted several tribes with negotiating gaming compacts and other gaming issues. View her full bio
