Van Aaron Hughes is of counsel in Dorsey’s trial group. He has practiced in Colorado since 1990, handling a wide variety of complex commercial litigation. Areas of emphasis include appellate advocacy, contract disputes, securities fraud litigation, antitrust, and intellectual property litigation.

Representative Transactions

  • Sutton v. United Air Lines, 527 U.S. 471 (1999). Successfully petitioned for writ of certiorari to the United States Supreme Court. Briefed and argued before the Supreme Court in a major case interpreting the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Supreme Court’s adverse decision was later overturned by statute.
  • Central Bank of Denver v. First Interstate Bank of Denver, 511 U.S. 164 (1994). Prepared the winning briefs to the United States Supreme Court in a landmark securities fraud case.
