Education, Training, & Events
Dorsey regularly hosts educational and training sessions on diversity topics. The firm requires the Management Committee, Office Managers, and Firmwide Administrative Management to participate in diversity training each year, usually in conjunction with the annual lawyer meeting. In addition, the firm regularly offers educational sessions on various diversity topics to staff and attorneys.
The firm hosts and sponsors events, such as networking and social events and minority job fairs, in partnership with minority bars and other organizations.
A few examples of educational sessions and events that Dorsey has hosted or will host include:
- The Working Family Resource Center (WFRC) presented parent education programs for staff and attorneys in the Minneapolis office. The WFRC educates, strengthens, and affirms families by providing parent educators through the State of Minnesota.
- Take Charge of Your Career seminar, presented by Minnesota Women Lawyers, will be hosted in Dorsey's Minneapolis office in April 2007.
- Mapping Your Legal Pathway: A Program for First Year Law Students of Color, a program presented by Twin Cities Diversity in Practice, was held in Dorsey's Minneapolis office in January 2007.
- U.S. District Court Judge Wiley Y. Daniel and U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael J. Watanabe spoke on "Diversity in the 21st Century" in Dorsey's Denver office in July 2006. Kenji Yoshino, Professor & Deputy Dean, Yale Law School, discussed "Covering: the Hidden Assault on Our Civil Rights" in the Minneapolis office in June 2006.
Internally, Dorsey hosts several events that are coordinated by the affinity groups. More information.
