Kate Demarest is an associate in Dorsey’s Trial Group. She represents clients in all stages of commercial litigation before state and federal courts. Her practice especially focuses on Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act issues, corporate governance, land use matters, attorney malpractice defense, and appeals.
While earning her J.D., Kate served as an Articles Editor for the Minnesota Law Review. She gained significant experience doing asylum litigation at the South Texas Pro Bono Asylum Representation Project (ProBAR) for East African immigrants entering the United States across the Mexico border. Before moving to Alaska in 2010, Kate clerked for the Honorable Ronald Lee Gilman of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the Honorable Eric Magnuson, Chief Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court. Kate served as a Peace Corps volunteer in South Africa from 2003-2005.
