The Dorsey & Whitney Foundation, formed in 1982, reflects Dorsey’s strong and enduring tradition to aid those with limited resources — from helping individuals gain access to our legal system, to collaborating with pro bono organizations and contributing personal time in volunteer service. The Dorsey & Whitney Foundation also is an enthusiastic supporter of cultural programs and initiatives.

The Dorsey & Whitney Foundation makes annual contributions to a variety of nonprofit organizations in the communities where Dorsey is located. Contributions focus on organizations, programs and projects that contribute to the cultural, civic, educational and general welfare of each community as a whole, as well as nonprofits that provide legal services for people who cannot otherwise afford representation. The firm advocates strongly for direct, individual involvement in community service. As a result, the Dorsey & Whitney Foundation also gladly considers applications from organizations where Dorsey attorneys and support staff give their time as board members and volunteers.

In addition to annual grants, The Dorsey & Whitney Foundation matches individual charitable contributions made by Dorsey lawyers. The Dorsey & Whitney Foundation has also responded to extraordinary circumstances — such as the flooding in the North Dakota Red River Valley in 1997, and the terrorist attacks of September 2001 — with major gifts matching the personal contributions of Dorsey lawyers and staff.
